Privacy Policy — Taxes Made Simple

Taxes Made Simple ("the app," "we," "us") is a finance companion for freelancers and small-business owners. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built the app to keep your financial information private and under your control.

Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to work:

• Account information — your name and email address, used to create and secure your account.
• Business and financial data you enter — the income, expenses, categories, mileage, and business or report names you record in the app.
• Receipt images — photos of receipts you capture or upload, so the app can read and categorize them.
• Location — when you use the mileage feature, the app uses your device location to measure trip distance for tax deductions. Location is used only while you are actively tracking a trip; the app does not track your location in the background.
• Diagnostic data — basic crash and error information to help us keep the app reliable.

How we use your information

• To provide core features: scanning and categorizing receipts, tracking income, expenses, and mileage, and generating your reports.
• To sync your data securely across your devices.
• To manage your account and subscription.
• To diagnose and fix problems.

We never sell or rent your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

How your information is shared

We share data only with the service providers that make the app work, under encrypted connections and strict access controls:

• Supabase — secure database, file storage, and authentication. Your data is isolated per account using row-level security.
• Anthropic — when you scan a receipt, the receipt image is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to read its details (vendor, date, amount, tax). It is used only to return that information to you.
• Google Play — processes subscription purchases and billing. We never see or store your payment card details.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual records at any time, or delete your entire account from within the app, which removes your associated data.

Your rights

You can access, update, or delete your data at any time in the app. You may also contact us to request access or deletion. Residents of the EU (GDPR) and California (CCPA) have additional rights, including the right to request a copy of your data and to request its deletion; we honor verified requests within 30 days.

Children's privacy

Taxes Made Simple is intended for adults managing their finances and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access restricted to your account. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new effective date.
